This is a reproduction print of the historical pictorial map “A Map of Florida”, created by Eleanore and Richard Foster, lithographed by Geo. C. Miller and published by The Billboard Barn in 1935.
The map presents a colorful celebration of Florida’s geography, history and culture, combining geographical information with playful illustrations of cities, landmarks, wildlife and popular attractions. Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville, Sarasota and the Everglades appear alongside scenes of fishing, boating and coastal life.
One of its most distinctive elements is the large smiling sun, evoking Florida’s identity as the Sunshine State. Palm trees, citrus fruits, ships, beaches and decorative vegetation further emphasize the state’s tropical character and growing importance as a tourist destination during the 1930s.
A historical timeline along the bottom traces Florida’s development through Spanish, French, British and American periods, while numerous illustrated vignettes reference its exploration and colonial history. The original lithograph measured approximately 59 × 66 cm.
